Gaga Ball is a fast-paced, high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. Players hit a ball with their hands, aiming to eliminate opponents by hitting them below the knee. It's easy to learn, inclusive for all skill levels, and promotes teamwork and physical activity.
No prior experience is necessary. Gaga Ball is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of athletic background. We provide orientation sessions and practice opportunities before the championship begins.
Each university can register a team of 8-12 students. This allows for substitutions and ensures all participants get playing time throughout the tournament.
The National Gaga Ball Championship rotates between participating universities each year. The 2026 championship will be hosted at the University of Texas. Future locations will be announced 12 months in advance.
Universities need to provide team registration, coordinate student travel and accommodation, and designate a faculty advisor. We provide all equipment, tournament organization, and event coordination.
The championship is a two-day event, typically held over a weekend. Day one includes registration, orientation, and preliminary rounds. Day two features semifinals, finals, and an awards ceremony.
Yes, there is a registration fee of $500 per team, which covers tournament entry, equipment use, event materials, and meals during the championship. Founding Eight universities receive a 50% discount.
